Autodesk University 2008
It’s no wonder that i’ve got battle on the brain this exhibitionist form of design is catching on like wild fire with all the biggest names in the industry. This Autodesk University is now in it’s 16th year, and this week they’re hosting AU 2008. Today they held a 20 minute industrial design battle with competing teams from Kohler, Brook Stevens and Amstrong White. All three teams had to develop a watch concept for blue-sky using Sketchbook Pro and some large tablets, under the fierce scrutiny of the media, a live audience and a panel of judges. All three designers ripped out some great concepts. In day two they’ll have another 20 minutes to render the concepts in 3D. Here’s a short video of the event. The soundtrack wasn’t exactly popping, but then again ID guys aren’t exactly the hippest crowd in the arts, but it didn’t seem to affect their design work, but that’s a lot of collared shirts in that room bumping to Gloria Estefan. heh, heh.
