CCC blog makes way for Design Directory.

After a couple of years of posting news and content about the creative industry in Sacramento, we’ll be closing the Capital Creative Collective blog in next few days and shifting our focus. The primary goal of the CCC has always been to promote the creative community in the region and highlight all the local talent. It’s been a challenge to cover all the great things happening around the region in all the various industries and with so many other agencies having their own blogs and independent content, we felt that we were not doing justice as an aggregator of relevant news and content not to mention finding the time to write about everything great that’s happening. With that being said, we’ll be shifting the CCC site over to the design directory and working to make some brand improvements and add more talent to the roster. The CCC will be all about the talent from here on out. It’s been fun sharing our ideas and insight and we’ll be doing that exclusively on our Facebook page from this day forth. Thanks for all the love and readership and we’ll see you in the social sphere.

You guessed it. Tonight is Designer Pint Night for the month of May. Join us at Hot Italian for another festive gathering of local creative talent. We’ll be congealing in the lounge around 7pm, like amoebic artists drawn to each other by the law of attraction and the need to create. Once there, we’ll get all frothy at the mouth talking about our passions and the state of design in our fair city and how we can infect the region with our ideas. Hope to see you there my friends. Catchy title needed for survey of artists + creatives.

The For Art’s Sake initiative will be launching a survey of individual artists, designers and architects to determine what they need to succeed in the Sacramento region. We would love your help creating a title that resonates with the art and design communities, motivating people to respond. Open to snark, sass and simplicity. (Example: San Jose issued theirs with the title of “Who cares about artists anyway”).

The survey will ask about 25-30 questions about how artists are making it, which disciplines are active, and our area can become more hospitable to artistic enterprise. It will be open to both fine and commercial artists. Sign up at http://www.forartsake.org/new/newsletter to recieve the survey and a report of the results. There are some images of architecture that endure the test of time. Julius Shulman created more than his fair share of those images. He had an excellent palette to work with- Richard Neutra, Rudolf Schindler, Pierre Koenig, Raphael Soriano, Charles Eames, John Lautner and Frank Lloyd Wright.

Each image is alive and compelling, where every detail and form is captured with perfection. In many cases, he only took one shot. He arrived just in time and made sure everything was in its place. No nonsense, no frill, just the building, the environment and people.

His notable subject was Modernism, which, because of his contribution, is timeless.

What can we do to make our work timeless? Maybe Julius Shulman will inspire you.

A special screening of the documentary “Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman” will be held at the Crocker Art Museum on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 7:00 PM. Director Eric Bricker will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion. Pecha Night Volume 13 is here. This Thursday at the Crocker Art Museum. It will be included in the museums 2nd Thursday “Artmix” lineup. Come check out the great new building by Gwathmey Siegel, it’s fantastic exhibits, poetry and lots more and show us what inspires you!
